Nolan is located in east central Nolan County. It was established in 1928. It was formed from a consolidation of old Nolan and Dora. Old Nolan was founded in 1897 that was five miles west of the current town while Dora was five miles east. A school was formed in Nolan. The three schools in Nolan, Old Nolan and Dora was consolidated and named Divide. The main source of revenue was farming and ranching. The discovery of oil also influenced the economy. It is also the birthplace of Sean Morrow, a member of the 2015 Texas Tech University National Champion Meat Judging Team.
