Olden was originally a railroad town and it is located on Interstate Highway 20 (Interstate 20 or I‑20) midway between Ranger and Eastland in northern Eastland County, Texas. Formerly known as Olden Switch on the Texas and Pacific Railway, it was born out of expectations of silver discoveries. Although no silver was discovered, it still survived during the county oil boom beginning 1919. Later on, it also became an unincorporated community, but still has a post office, with the ZIP code of 76466. It also reached a population of 500 residents in 1945, declining to 110 until 1990, then reaching a population of 332 in 2010.
