Pickton was first settled around 1856 by M. D. Jackson. It gained a small settlement in the late 1870s and in 1879, it became a station when the East Line and Red River Railroad was built. The name was supposedly Pick Town but the railroad changed to Pickton. This an unincorporated community in Hopkins County, Texas has a post office established in 1881 with the ZIP code of 75471. It is situated at the junction of State Highway 11 and Farm Road 269 fifteen miles southeast of Sulphur Springs in southeastern Hopkins County. Also, public education in the community of Pickton is provided by the Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School District. The estimated population of Pickton was 90 in 2000.
