Pineland was primarily a sawmill town that is also known as John Adam's Mill. Its name was changed when a post office was opened in 1904. From its beginnings of becoming a stop along the Gulf, Beaumont and Great Northern Railroad in 1902, the timber operation was continued by the Garrison Norton Lumber Company in 1906 by constructing a mill by1907. Pineland is situated on U.S. Highway 96 and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, ten miles southwest of Hemphill in southwestern Sabine County. Thomas L. L. Temple, a part-owner of the mill, purchased the operation and formed the Temple Lumber Company in 1910 which prompted the growth of Pineland. He also opened a commissary and issued tokens to the mill’s employees. Then, the city was incorporated in 1941. With a total area of 2.1 square miles, a population of 811 was reached in 2017. Also, Pineland Municipal Airport (T24) with 1 Runway is located in Pineland.
