The U.S unincorporated community of Rockwood is located near the U.S Highway 283 in Coleman County, Texas. The area started in the early 1870s but was first established in 1880s. The establishment of the community came after Lee Shields founded a store in the area. In 1889, a post office was founded in H.L and Sallie Faulk’s home. Jim Foreman named the post office Discord after a disagreement over the name of the town. The name was changed to Rockwood later in 1890 after Adolph Wood, a local resident who became the postmaster. By 1890, the community had established a general store, a gin and a corn mill.
