San Leon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Galveston County, Texas, United States. It has a population of just below 5.000. It was established in the 19th century as a stronghold for a pirate called Jean Lafitte. The town was hit by a hurricane in 1900 and it never fully recovered. The biggest source of income for the locals is fishing mostly focused on oysters and shrimps. Many homes in the city are actually summer homes and resorts. A lot of residents also commute to Huston every day for work.
