Sheppard Air Force Base is a U.S Air Force Base situated in Wichita County in Texas. The air force base is set just eight miles north from the central business district in Wichita Falls. Sheppard Air Force Base was originally named in honor of Senator John Morris Sheppard who died on the 9th of April in 1941. The Air Force Base started operating that year and it used to be the United States Army Air Corps training center. The base used to be known as Sheppard Field and had its zenith of strength with more than forty-six thousand people while the air force base was distributing as a separation center for soldiers being discharged during World War II.
