Silver is an unincorporated community in northwestern Coke County, Texas, United States. It has a post office and a zip code (76949). The city was founded in 1870 and the post office was established in 1890. It was closed briefly from 1907 to 1908. The city boomed after WW2 when the oil was found nearby. The oil companies worked in the area until the 1960s and then they moved the workers elsewhere and the community lost most of its residents, never to fully recover. The town also had three churches, Baptist, Methodist and Church of Christ, a gasoline station, and a grocery store.
