South Plains is an unincorporated community in northern Floyd County, Texas, United States. The city has a zip code even though it doesn’t have a local government. The community was established in 1907 and it boomed in 1920s up until the Great Depression when it declined in population and in wealth. At this point it’s estimated that it has a population of 25 residents. At some point in its history the city was known as Curlew and it was a stagecoach stop. The post office which is the largest building in the community changed location 3 times.
