Sugar Land is a city in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. It has a population of about 70.000. In the 19th century the present Sugar Land was a home to many sugar plantation and that’s how it got its name. Imperial Sugar Company consolidated the farms in 1908 and it became a company town. It’s one of the most affluent and fast growing cities in the state. Schlumberger, an oil services company, moved its Houston-area offices from 5000 Gulf Freeway in Houston to a campus in Sugar Land in 1995.It’s also a home to BMC Software since the 90s. It’s a solidly Republican city in all areas of government.
