Tatum is a city in Panola and Rusk counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population of the city is about 1.400 according to the last census. It was settled in the 1840s by Albert Tatum and his second wife, Mary C. (Rippetoe) Tatum. They’ve built a plantation at the spot. The first bank was established in 1903, but the city was almost completely destroyed by a tornado in the following year. The main attraction of the city is probably Martin Creek Lake State Park is located four miles (6 km) southeast of Tatum.
