Trent is a town in Taylor County and is part of the Abilene, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on I-20, northwest of the county. It was founded in 1881 when it began to serve as a halfway railroad depot. Trent should have been named Eskota; the signboards were mistakenly interchanged when names were given to the railroad stations. In a blink of an eye, it was corrected and was named after Isaac Riley Trent, a cattleman who ironically lived in Eskota. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, Trent only had a post office, a church, a school, and some small businesses. The number of residents did not significantly grow in time. The town was incorporated with 320 residents back in the early 1990s. As of 2010, it has a population of 337.
