The town of Whitney was founded in 1876 when the Houston and Texas Central Railway arrived to the area. The community really started three years later when the lots around the railway were sold. The town was named after the brother-in-law of the H&TC railway investor, Charles A. Whitney. The town of Whitney itself is situated in Hill County in Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population of the town was 2,087. The peak population of the town is in its present day. The town’s public education system is being distributed by the Whitney Independent School District. As stated by the U.S Bureau the town has a total area of 1.1 square miles.
