Walter Reiffert and Taylor Whitsett both donated the land to the railroad that was arriving their way. The town’s name was decided by a simple coin toss which is obvious who won. The earliest number of population was in the 1940s when there were around 280 recorded residents living in the town. The number grew to around 350 in the year 1982. The destruction of nearby Choke Canyon Dam that occurred in 1986 was thought to be also the downfall of the town, but since then the town endured the number of 350 residents since 1982. Whitsett is an unincorporated community and is situated in Live Oak County in Texas. The town is placed at the junction of U.S Route 281 and Farm to Market Road 99.
