Zavalla is a city situated in Angelina County in Texas. The town was named for a Mexican rancher and politician named Lorenzo de Zavala. He also signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. The town has a total area of 2.1 square miles according to the U.S Bureau, all of it is land. The town’s peak recorded population was in the 1980s with 762 people, at the 2010 census, the population was just 713, and the current population of the town rose to an estimated 717 residents. The town’s public education system is being provided by the Zavalla Independent School District.
