Although Macdona is an unincorporated community, its residents enjoy the services of a post office whose ZIP code is 78054. Macdona was established by Samuel C. Hiroms in 1830. The community was named in honor of George Macdona, an Englishman who owned the city’s townsite. On July 7, 1886 the first sale of town lots was recorded. A 42-mile line was opened between Macdona and Christine on September 1, 1909.
