Originally named Warringford, Waring can be found alongside the Guadalupe River in Kendall County. The area was established in 1887. The name Waring came from the founder’s hometown, Waringford, Ireland. In 1901 the town was renamed to Waring. In the late 1880s, the railroad was built and in 1888 the post office from Windsor moved across the Guadalupe River to Waringford. The area is home to Don Strange Ranch Adventure Challenge Course. The most essential business in Waring was a lumberyard and quarry. The town peaked in 1914. Bats can also be seen emerging from the deserted railroad tunnel before sunset.
