Altstadt Brewery

Craft Brewery in Fredericksburg -

Altstadt Brewery is an authentic, German-style brewery guided by the German Purity Law of 1516 and uses only four premium ingredients – hops, malt, yeast imported from Germany, and artesian spring water – to create award-winning beers including Altbier, Kölsch, and Lager. Established in 2014 by the Scripps family, they first released their lineup of year-round beers in 2017. In October 2018, the Fredericksburg-based brewery opened their authentic 120-acre Old World German-style destination brewery. Modeled after a German castle, it features a German-style biergarten with several seating areas, a tasting room, an event center for special events, and a restaurant. The biergarten features live music during pub hours. The brewery also conducts free tours at its brewing facilities where visitors can go behind the scenes to learn about the German brewing process, and catch a glimpse of their imported state-of-the-art German equipment.

Angelina Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Lufkin -

Angelina Brewing Co. is a newly-opened addition to Lufkin’s historic downtown. It’s a craft brewery and restaurant “born as part of a vision of restoring historic communities”.  Founded in 2017, it opened its doors to the public in June 2019. The brewery intends to be Lufkin's gathering place that brings the community together “one pint at a time”. The pub serves a variety of craft beers and is also a full-service restaurant. It’s family-friendly, too, with pub grub, sandwiches, and more for mom and dad. There's a special kids’ menu for the kiddos, too. Anvil Brewing

Craft Brewery in Pittsburg -

Anvil Brewing is housed in an old and historically significant building in Pittsburg. Armed with an idea to create a gathering place for a small town’s community, husband and wife Byron and Kristin Aldredge moved into Pittsburg and established the brewery. The long-shuttered Pilgrim's Pride Feed Store was once part of the town’s booming chicken business, but the 100-year-old building stood abandoned since 1961. With an economic development fund grant from the city as seed money, the Aldredges’ idea soon took flight. They installed craft beer equipment, refurbished the place, cooked up some mouthwatering menu items, and the result was a great venue that was a combination pub, dance hall with live music, and venue for private events. At any given time, they have five craft beers on tap, and their customers rave about the sandwiches. “Best Reuben ever!”

Athens Brewing Co.

Craft Brewery in Athens -

Athens Brewing Co. is a craft brewery in the heart of downtown Athens. The Pierce family owns and operates the brewery, which is located in a historic brick building in the main square. The same family also owns Tara Vineyard & Winery, the oldest winery in Henderson County, and Tara Inn, an authentic circa 1880s house consisting of four large guestrooms overlooking the family’s vineyards. The brewery has usually about ten quality beers on tap, with new ones constantly being introduced. They bring back old favorites, too. The menu receives very positive reviews on review sites as well. “Blue cheeseburger was awesome… but the lava fries were by far our favorite!” There's live music on most Fridays and Saturdays, and there's a spacious patio where one can hang out during good weather. They’re kid- and dog-friendly, too.

Backstory Brewery

Craft Brewery in Sulphur Springs -

Dr. Robert Lenington wears many hats and owner of Backstory Brewery is one of them. After settling in Sulphur Springs and opening his medical practice, he and head brewer Phillip Rose discussed the benefits of opening a brewery to serve the Sulphur Springs community. A homebrewer himself, the doctor’s friendship with Phillip goes back over 20 years. Soon after, they both made the leap and established BackStory Brewery in 2017. With the mantra “good people deserve great beer”, the co-founders are dedicated to brewing “the highest quality craft beer available”. This “small town brewery” stands on a building that was built in 1907. It has a kid- and a dog-friendly environment with a wide selection of in-house brews. “You’d only expect (this brewery) in a much larger city… the best cold brews in town!” It is really "fortunate" that there is "this amazing brewery" which is really "fitting for some of the coolest hangouts in Uptown Dallas or Austin!"

Bar D Brewhouse

Craft Brewery in San Saba -

San Saba is only a town of about 3,000 but the Pecan Capital of the World shells around 28 million pounds of pecan annually. Bar D Brewhouse, meanwhile, offers a flight of up to eleven craft beers – count ‘em! Not bad for a small town! Bar D opened in 2011 when, after many years, Larry and Jerilyn Davis decided they wanted a change of pace from their jobs. Larry the brewmaster learned how to brew beer while Jerilyn had always been an excellent home cook. Together, they manage and operate the pub and restaurant, and also operate the Bar D Inn. Locals and those just passing by love their place:

Bear King Brewing

Craft Brewery in Marble Falls -

Bear King Brewing Company owes its name to the legend of the bear king of Marble Falls. Guidry brothers JD, Grant, and Blake, together with Jackie Blakely, their sister, joined forces and took on different roles in putting up the company. Each sibling undertakes a different side of the business with JD, a professional brewer, as head brewer. The brewery and taproom offers the community of Marble Falls a place to gather because they believe that “stories… whether tall tales or plain truth, are (best) shared over a beer”. They currently have six beers on tap, with plans to can their brews. The taproom and restaurant is 5,500 square feet of indoor seating for 200 guests. There’s outside seating at the “Beargarten”, with patio games and live music for the family-friendly space. Their current lineup of beers include their bestseller Mama Tried IPA, and 7 Spanish Angels, a collaboration with Independence Coffee Company. They also offer the award-winning seasonal beer Silt Brown Ale, among other seasonal offerings. There's a line of products they call their B-Sides and Rarities as well.

Cedar Creek Brewery

Craft Brewery in Seven Points -

The Cedar Creek Brewery is a multi-awarded brewery and taproom in Seven Points. Named after the lake located in the area, it has come a long way from its humble start. Founded by former home brewer Jim Elliott, the brewery first opened in July 2012. Back then, it made do with second hand equipment. Some equipment had to be repurposed, including those once used in dairy production. Despite its modest, tight budget, the brewery proceeded to win a prestigious 2013 Great American Beer Festival gold medal for its seasonal Belgian Dubbel. Since then, with several other award-winning beers, the brewery has moved to its current location in 2015, quadrupling its original production capacity. The new location includes a large taproom and a café, the Plowboys Café, which serves lunch and dinner. They have a kid’s menu and welcome leashed pets in the outdoor area. Trivia: guess which movie filmed in the premises of the café before the brewery took over?

Cypress Creek Southern Ales

Craft Brewery in Winnsboro -

Cypress Creek Southern Ales is a small batch nano-brewery in Winnsboro. Mike Howard and his family owns and operates the brewery, which opened August 2018. Currently one of the highest rated brewery on the popular beer-centric app Untappd, it is also the lone representative for Texas. The brewery currently has almost 50 beers available for rating on Untappd, which are all named after something in Winnsboro or in connection with the East Texas area. According to one review, the brewery's taproom is “small and cozy”. However, the beers are “nothing short of sudsy divine-ness”. In good weather, the outdoor area becomes a venue for corn hole and horseshoe games.

Double Horn Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Marble Falls -

Originally established by two husband-and-wife teams in 2011, Double Horn Brewing Company has been under new ownership since Fall 2016. The brewery continues to take pride in “providing some of the best beer in Central Texas”. The brewery takes its name from a tiny Texas town founded in 1885. It refers to an incident at the nearby creek where the “remains of two bucks with interlocked antlers” were found. Presumably, the deers tussled and died with antlers entangled. The brewery hopes “to capture, preserve, and celebrate the pioneering spirit and inventiveness” of the early Texas communities. At the time of its opening, the Double Horn was the only brewery in Burnet County. It still is. Despite the change in ownership, they continue to serve both lunch and dinner. Josh Alexander, the new owner, expanded the menu and included takeaway and catering options. Besides their in-house brews, they also have guest beers on rotation.

Eola School Restaurant and Brewery

Craft Brewery in Eola -

Meet Mark Cannon. He’s the owner of Eola School Restaurant and Brewery. He brews the beer, cooks the delicious burgers and fries, makes homemade pizza, does all the cleaning and renovation work required, and tends to the garden that supplies most of his restaurant’s needs. Some have called him “a real Renaissance man”. The brewery and restaurant was once a school from 1928 to 1983, and back then, the center of the community of Eola. Mark is from Portland, Oregon but his roots are in Texas. After arriving in 2003, he soon purchased the school. Many speculate his was the only offer. The place still looks like “an unfinished construction zone” according to some, but being a one-man show, many have also admired what he’s done with the place. If you can overlook the “rough edges”, Mark’s brewery, restaurant, and his Farm Ale have a cult-like following on the internet, and seem deserving of the 5-stars he gets.

Located in historic downtown Fredericksburg along Main Street, the company is equally unique in its offer of a combination brewery with dining capabilities, a “biergarten”, and “Bed & Brew” facilities. The company makes use of a well-restored two-storey 1890s era building to house all these offerings. The Bed & Brew, just like a bed and breakfast, gives guests a chance to experience a stay at one of twelve rooms available from the brewery. Too drunk to get home? Just proceed to the second floor! You don’t get breakfast, but you do get a pint for each night’s stay! If that doesn’t convince you to give them a try, perhaps their award-winning beers will.

His wife Diane was originally from Rowena, and they decided to move back to town in 2011. He acquired and converted the old Rowena Filling Station which serves as his brewery and taproom. The brewery is directly across a memorial dedicated to the prohibition. Taproom visitors feel more like members of a very large family according to Mike. The brewery is open only on the first Saturday of each month. Mike still keeps his full time job as a civilian contractor at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo. The rest of the month he spends brewing his beers on his 7-barrel system, which runs on manual power.
