In Midland, Matthew Hanson founded West Texas Heritage Garden in 2010. It is a community garden that allows people of its district to grow their produce and flowers. They have individual plots as well and a 2,000 square foot donation garden. Since then, it serves as a foundation for residents to learn self-reliance and organic food production practice, create nutritious food, and promote social connection. Hence, the donation garden aids local supply agencies with fresh and organically-raised fruits and vegetables. They also offer hands-on educational opportunities. This becomes a bridge to serve the community. Suzy Parker said, "What a wonderful endeavor for Midland and the surrounding community to produce delicious food and beautiful flowers!"
