Bartletts Distillery takes its name after one of Van Barkin’s ancestors. The distillery’s establishment is a perfect example of someone finding opportunities in the face of adversity. Van worked in oil and gas until, after 20 years in the industry, he was laid off in 2015. With basic knowledge in brewing his own alcohol and beer, Van and his wife decided on the direction he was going to take.
