Walking Stick Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 11.57 mi

All of Walking Stick Brewing Company’s beers take inspiration from the Rockies that have been so much a part of Andy and his wife, Angie. There are "tons of outdoor seating, and a few indoor options as well". The owners are "fantastic to chat beer with" and the rest of the service is also "equally as pleasant". "The flight" will "not disappoint" anyone "as all the beers" are "awesome". There are also "a few really unique brews, and others just great, solid beer". Definitely, "great beer choices, a great taco truck and gorgeous flowers everywhere!" Furthermore, "pet-friendly, parking is easy, in walking distance to other bars, in a neighborhood area, and has lawn games".

City Acre Brewing Co.

Craft Brewery in Houston - 11.76 mi

Just 10 minutes north of downtown Houston, the City Acre Brewing finally opened in 2016 and Houston fell in love. The four-year delay did the owners a favor. They used the place as an events venue while they completed their Texas permits. Meanwhile, the plants and trees in the area had time to grow, and the brewpub had time to perfect its beers and recipes. When they finally opened, the raised vegetable gardens became a source for the seasonal farm-to-table menu. “I found the setting enchanting,” says one review, “(and) gardeners will enjoy checking out (the garden).” With Adirondack chairs and picnic tables scattered about, “it was quite easy to spend a few hours enjoying the blossoming gardens,” says another. The beers on taps, of course, are getting rave reviews, too. In addition, the brewery offers beer cocktails, a selection of wines, and feature their own house-made sodas.

Astral Brewing

Craft Brewery in Houston - 11.94 mi

Astral Brewing just opened in March 2019 and the reviews after just six months of operation blow the competition away. Or you might even say out of the galaxy. Co-founders Jose Ceja and Alex McDonald seem to have a winner on their hands, with these kinds of reviews:
  • Overall this is a perfect Kolsch. I struggle with rating beers a solid 5.0 because that means there’s nothing they can do to improve it. But a perfect appearance, a perfect aroma, a perfect mouthfeel and flavor… well, that’s a 5 star beer, y’all.” – from Beer Chronicle for their Astral Kraftwerk Kolsch
  • “Very fun little brewery! They have ping pong tables, good beers, music, food trucks and games galore.” – a random review from a random review site
The brewery is also very dog-friendly and currently offers “$2 off selected beers during televised local favorite football games”.

The company grew rapidly fast and the company moved to a larger brewhouse by 2014. In May 2016, the brewery added an on-site restaurant and biergarten. To much publicity in November 2016, the brewery announced the company's acquisition by Anheuser-Busch InBev. With this development, the brewery expects to expand capacity to 150,000 barrels per year in 2019. The brewery continues to produce popular its "mainstays" Hopadillo IPA, Love Street Kolsch-Style Blonde, and Crawford Bock, among others. They also continue to produce their popular seasonal and specialty series beers. Tip: The brewery conducts daily tours with schedules posted on their website. They require visitors, however, to wear closed-toe shoes.

Ingenious Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Humble - 19.91 mi

Ingenious Brewing Company is by Mike Broderick, its head brewer, and Justin Gyorfi, urologist by profession. The brewery specializes in “small batch beers” that “diverge from traditional norms”. With 24 taps that tend to be “outside-the-box”, the brewery releases beers that “look awesome on an Instagram feed”. If demand is any indication, the beers are delicious, too. Less than a year from their first anniversary, the brewery is barely able to keep up with the demand and is eyeing to open a second location. The brewery specializes in “tart fruited sours, pastry stouts, hop-loaded IPAs, and milkshake IPAs”. Enjoy them at the 2,000 square meter air-conditioned taproom, possibly including the “colorful” Smarty Stone beers. This line of beers took inspiration from the colors of Marvel’s Infinity Stones. You’ll have to come often, though, since they rotate beers often. You might even see a favorite making a comeback.

11 Below Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 22.21 mi

11 Below Brewing Company currently offers 13 varieties of craft beer – so, no, their name does not refer to the excellent beers they brew in North Houston. Here’s a hint – their co-founders worked at Texas oilfields at some point, but their love for beers led them to brewing beers instead. Four out of the 13 varieties they brew are available all year round, while the rest are seasonal offerings or specials so call ahead before heading out the door. All are available on draft while a selection is available in 12 oz cans at your favorite retailers. Oh – and all have clever names with “best paired with” recommendations. The company has a tasting room open to the public. Hours are Thursdays to Fridays from 5pm to 9pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm to 9pm.  Admission is free, and they’re also available for private events.

Galveston Bay Beer Company

Craft Brewery in Dickinson - 22.77 mi

Established in 2014, the Galveston Bay Beer Company is Galveston County’s largest brewery. At the time, it was also one of the first in the area. The company has artifacts related to the craft of beer brewing from the past 120 years. Their air-conditioned taproom at Dickinson is open daily. With at least 12 beers to choose from, some are exclusive to the taproom only. Opened in 2016, they “specialize in lighter style beers but dark beer fans can enjoy the Bull Shark, their Scottish ale".
