Co-founders Ken Goodman and Chuck Robertson started with the distribution company CR Goodman Distribution Co., which brought in various labels into Texas. In 2008, they set out establish their own brewery, and by 2011, Karbach Brewing Company set up brewing operations in Houston. The company grew rapidly fast and the company moved to a larger brewhouse by 2014. In May 2016, the brewery added an on-site restaurant and biergarten. To much publicity in November 2016, the brewery announced the company's acquisition by Anheuser-Busch InBev. With this development, the brewery expects to expand capacity to 150,000 barrels per year in 2019. The brewery continues to produce popular its "mainstays" Hopadillo IPA, Love Street Kolsch-Style Blonde, and Crawford Bock, among others. They also continue to produce their popular seasonal and specialty series beers. Tip: The brewery conducts daily tours with schedules posted on their website. They require visitors, however, to wear closed-toe shoes.

Bearded Fox Brewing Co. is a craft microbrewery in Tomball that simply wants to create and serve great beer. The founders hope that when you drink their beer, you’ll feel good about it. That, for its founders, is the essence of a good beer. They also believe in sustainability and going local, which is why they source their ingredients from as many local sources as they can. And – they’ve kept it simple and local, too. Just beer and no food – they have local food trucks on rotation if you’re hungry.

You might wonder why they named their brewery and taproom Bearded Fox. It’s because the owners all have beards, and their wives they say, are foxes. Whether one believes that part or not doesn’t matter. They have been open since 2017 and they simply have great beer including four core beers and several on rotation.

 

A brewery and taproom in East End, Sigma Brewing Company offers a friendly backyard atmosphere and delicious, handcrafted brews. The company was founded by a group of guys with an obsession for beer and an equally strong obsession with perfecting it. At Sigma Brewing Company, expect a small batches of brews like the “XPA, an extra-pale ale, and hoppy New Zealand IPA.” The owners take the brewery game up a notch with music blasting, movies playing, and on-site food trucks in rotation. You can also chill in their dog-friendly patio or warehouse space, and play a game of cornhole, board games or vintage arcades. Whether you're sipping a quadruple dry hopped and hazy Medina Sod or savoring the complexity of a bourbon barrel-aged Maximum Deluxury porter, the pint they pour will never disappoint!

The Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company thrives on creativity and imagination. It has a simple mission: (1) “create great craft beer that is unapologetically Houston,” and (2) “bring people around great beer.” Their slogan reflects it – “Houston’s most creative brewery”. Founded by two friends Ras Zarinfar and Ryan Robertson in March 2011, many things have happened since they started at their original location on Nolda Street. Once a boat storage warehouse, they imagined, and created, a successful brewery and taproom business. About 70 craft beers later, they imagined bigger things for their Houston community. Within six weeks, the company raised $1M in funding from 583 individuals to build a 28,000 sq. ft. brewery and taproom. The new location opens in Fall 2019, with three floors of beer goodness. It’s much like, as the owners would like to say, Willy Wonka’s beer factory, but run by a Belgian monk in Texas cowboy boots! The deck offers spectacular views of the Houston skyline! Imagine that…

True Anomaly Brewing specializes in “hop-forward ales, Belgian-style ales, and wild/sour fermented ‘explorations’”. With this kind of lineup of craft beers, the anomaly would be the right word. The story behind the brewery’s name is also based on the founders' day jobs. Also, the founders started as homebrewers. And, 10 years after and countless beer batches brewed, they finally decided to start a brewery. True Anomaly is also space-themed. This includes the building's exteriors. And also, the “contemporary-industrial interiors”. Plus, the NASA posters hanging from the walls and the names of its beers. All of which are related to the founders’ backgrounds.

When the world was introduced to the Houston Astrodome in 1965, it was the world’s first air-conditioned domed stadium. People dubbed it the “8th wonder of the world”. The founders of 8th Wonder Brewery jokingly named their company after the moniker of this Houston icon as they brewed craft beers in a dome-like warehouse, 8th Wonder has been brewing their beers since 2013, and promises “fermented fun in East Downtown Houston”. The brewery currently has 7 beers available year-round, with seasonal recipes lined up throughout the year. Some beers are available in 6 or 4 packs, while others are available only on draft or showcased as a limited release. Give their taproom a visit for some of their “Imagin8ion brews – craft beers featured as one-offs or test batches. 8th Wonder also owns and operates 8th Wonder Distillery.

It took quite a while for the owners of Fire Ant Brewing to have their dream brewery – almost eight years, they say. After getting approval from the city, they still had to wait some more for construction and a few setbacks. Everyone seems to agree, however, that the wait was worth it. A true brewpub, Fire Ant Brewing also features a restaurant and a bar patio that’s been voted #1 in Tomball. The brewpub serves the town known for its strong German heritage, and also the surrounding areas of Woodlands, Spring, Magnolia and the Cypress. With this in mind, the brewpub made sure to have a few German-inspired food and beers on the menu. Fire Ant is great for families and dog-friendly. Producing craft beers fresh from the source, Klaus Brewing Company was founded by a local group of family and friends led by passionate brewer, Thomas Lemke. They are focused on bringing the “under-served German-style beers to a wide range of consumers,” from beer aficionados to new converts alike. They are offering their flagship “Altbier, Helles Lager, Pilsner, and Weissbier” in a welcoming environment as well as seasonal beers such as “Kölsch, Dunkelweizen, Märzen, Maibock, Schwarzbier, and many others.” They have an air conditioned tap room where you can comfortably enjoy fresh local made German style craft brews year round. If you want to take in some fresh air and regular live music while enjoying their offerings, they also have an outside beer garden filled with table games and other entertainment.
