Iraan is a city located in Pecos County in Texas. The city’s population was 1,229 as of the 2010 census. Ira and Ann Yates were the reason behind the town’s name, they were the owners of the ranch in the area where the community was built. After Yates Oil Field was discovered in 1926, the town developed quickly. Just one year later the school was built in the town, and a post office one year after that in 1928. The population of the town was already about 1,600 residents in 1930. The public education of the city is being provided by the Iraan-Sheffield Independent School District.
