Leakey is a city located in Real County and is the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the city’s population was 425. The city was named after a pioneer from Tennessee named John H. Leakey. Leakey is very dependent on tourism because of its proximity to Frio River and Garner State Park. The settlement of Anglo Americans began in 1856. John Leakey and his family settled the land. As the U.S Bureau states, the town has a total population of 0.6 square miles, all of it is land. The public education system is provided by its own Independent School District.
