Located in Kingwood, Texas, The Megaton Brewery is a small craft beer producer and one of the top Houston breweries that offers a “great selection of craft beers” in their awesome taproom. Megaton’s Master Brewer, affectionately known as Captain Pint, began his journey of crafting his own brews in the early 1990’s. His brewing experience and culinary training led to years of experimental brewing well outside the boundaries of traditional beer styles. At Megaton Brewery, you can “experience, appreciate and enjoy their distinctive beer and atmosphere.” From the northeast side of Houston, they utilize their state of art 15 barrel brew house to create exclusive recipes using only the finest ingredients!

Bobby Harl established his craft brewery in 2015 inside an old church building and named it Back Pew Brewing. The 14-acre property the church sits on houses a taproom appropriately named “The Sanctuary”. With a large selection of brew creations, the so-called Houston prodigal son Harl offers his guests a choice between his Saints or Sinners line-up. The Saint beers are identifiable with their mostly white labels and described as “more traditional, ‘sessionable’ beers with lower ABVs”. The Sinners line, meanwhile, is denoted with mostly black labels, tap handles, or cans, and consist of “more unorthodox and less common ‘big’ beers”. These beers have higher ABVs, and therefore, are “more challenging”. The taproom is open Thursdays to Sundays, with food trucks available on Saturdays. Guests are welcome to bring outside food. Kids can play in the expansive yard, and pets are welcome, too!

Ingenious Brewing Company is by Mike Broderick, its head brewer, and Justin Gyorfi, urologist by profession. The brewery specializes in “small batch beers” that “diverge from traditional norms”. With 24 taps that tend to be “outside-the-box”, the brewery releases beers that “look awesome on an Instagram feed”. If demand is any indication, the beers are delicious, too. Less than a year from their first anniversary, the brewery is barely able to keep up with the demand and is eyeing to open a second location. The brewery specializes in “tart fruited sours, pastry stouts, hop-loaded IPAs, and milkshake IPAs”. Enjoy them at the 2,000 square meter air-conditioned taproom, possibly including the “colorful” Smarty Stone beers. This line of beers took inspiration from the colors of Marvel’s Infinity Stones. You’ll have to come often, though, since they rotate beers often. You might even see a favorite making a comeback.

Copperhead Brewery is a Conroe-based family-owned craft brewery. Its owners are Seth Earnest, his wife Alicia, and his dad, Mark. The brewery’s name comes from the copperhead snakes common in the Montgomery County area. Whenever possible, beer names at the brewery take on a snake-themed name. Examples include their year-round beers Medusa (a Belgian dark strong), Striker (an American IPA), and Black Venom (their popular Imperial Stout). Seasonal beers are also available such as the farmhouse ale Sidewinder Saison. The brewery prefers “big, aggressive beers” and believes that one “(doesn’t) have to do a light beer to be successful”. This “aggressiveness” shows in their popular t-shirt merchandise featuring an angry-looking copperhead snake. At the brewery, guests can enjoy a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. The indoor area features an air-conditioned taproom. The outdoor area, meanwhile, has picnic tables and games, and can accommodate pets.

A family owned and operated craft brewery in Houston, Southern Yankee Beer Company is known for bringing novel brews to the people! The owners are family of beer lovers, world travelers, and Houston transplants. They are passionate beer nerds that answered a call to brew for Houston, Spring, and Conroe. They offer a rotating selection of beers brewed in-house, including their five mainstays “Who's Paul? Pale Ale, HEYYEAYEA DIPA, Porter's Porter, Que Pablo Mexican Lager, and Fuzzy Bastard Cream Ale.” The taproom is located upstairs with plenty of seats and TVs while the bar outside is located in a small hut with a lot of seatings as well. Southern Yankee Beer Company is dedicated to make better beer, providing a better experience, and forging a larger beer community. It is family friendly, and there are usually food options from local food trucks that come out to serve.

Fortress BeerWorks based in Spring, Texas opened in mid-March 2019. Dion Billard was a homebrewer and friends Robert Fleming, John O’Hara, and Shawn Stasiuk used to hang around his garage for his beers. The four were friends at their day job. The brewery’s opening makes it Spring’s first and the 53^rd for the Greater Houston area. The secluded but inviting taproom and brewery has over 6,600 square feet of space for guests. The indoor and outdoor seating areas easily accommodate over 100 people. There’s a fenced in playground for kids with plans to add more kid-friendly stuff. Food trucks will provide the food although guests are welcome to bring in their own. The brewery is also ideal for owners to bring their dogs. For options other than beer, the brewery has cider, root beer, and a selection of wines.

B-52 Brewing has an extensive list of craft beers that “push beer brewing into unexpected and surprising territory”. With 19 beers currently on the menu, the brewery’s craft beers are not the only attraction that brings people to their 7-acre location. Their unique creations, however, reach new heights when paired with the stunning surroundings. The brewery is located near a national park and the setting is “park-like” amidst towering trees. There are ping-pong tables, live music, and a food truck or three. There’s indoor and outdoor seating in their taproom, and wine, lemonade, or house-made root beer is available for those who didn’t come for the beer. Supervised kids and leashed dogs are also welcome.
