West is a city in McLennan County, in the U.S. state of Texas, which is located on I-35, northeast of the county. It was first settled in the 1840s as a farming and ranching community that revolved around a freshwater spring called Bold Springs, in which the settlement was formerly known until it was changed in 1881 under the name of West, after Thomas West, a well-known landowner and businessman. West was incorporated in 1892 and by the early 19th century, it already had 2,000 residents. West became known for its bakeries and restaurants that specialized in Czech and German Foods.
