    (512) Brewing Company is a microbrewery based in Austin offering over 30 craft beer varieties. The company is proud to use only the freshest local and organic ingredients while consciously controlling the brewing process up to distribution. The company is completely independent of the big brands, and features draft beers sold in reusable kegs. Instead of Bisphenol-A (BPA) lined aluminum, they serve their beers in durable glass. Perhaps a testament to their popularity, they were the largest buyers of organic malted barley in Texas in 2016. Catch them at over 715 locations around Texas. Even better, for $12 per person, drop by for their open house on Saturdays from noon to 4:00pm. The fee includes a tour of the brewery's facilities, 6 samples, and a logo glass. You can also attend one of their Cellar Sessions, an intimate live music session filmed at the brewery featuring a musical artist.

    Joe and Aaron are army buddies and co-founders of 12 Fox Beer Co. After being stationed in Germany where they got to develop a taste for authentic German beers, both went their separate ways. Having reconnected years later, they decide to establish their own small batch, high-quality European master-crafted beer. They keep things simple – just like the Germans – by using single-sourced malt. And what’s German beer without a biergarten? With their wives' help, they opened one in the Fall of 2018, and now operate a tap room called The Fox Hole in Dripping Springs. Aaron’s wife Melissa creates delicious baked goods from spent grains for the guests. Both couples are busy transforming a Hill County backroad into a German biergarten and giving the community a unique experience. 12 Fox is family- and pet-friendly with a large covered patio, outdoor biergarten, kids’ play area, and small dog park. It also serves other drinks like wine, cider, and mead.

    The 4th Tap Brewing Cooperative is Texas’ first worker-owned brewery, and one of the first in the U.S.  It took the founders 6 years of planning, and they finally opened in November 2015. Today, each person you see making, selling, or serving their delicious craft beers owns a piece of 4th Tap. The brewery is located in north Austin. The taproom was “designed to bring together [the] neighborhood… and share 4th Tap’s love of beer, art, music, and much more.” And, wrestling is one of those “much more”. The taproom is open daily and there’s a wrestling ring in the back for occasional wrestling matches. “Party World Rasslin’” (PWR) is one of the special events aligned with their mantra “Brew. Share. Party. Repeat.” There are three “core beer line-up” and several others on seasonal rotation at the taproom. Some of the varieties come in cans and are available for purchase.

    The craft beer scene in Texas has been expanding throughout the years and 5th Element Brewing is one of the brewery in Austin that is making their own name in the industry. Behind this are artisan beer producers who “thirst for beer and the human connection brought through it’s enjoyment.” In 2018, 5th Element Brewing has chosen old town Leander as their new location for the brewpup, showcasing some their great brews including “Whisky Porter on Nitro, Session IPA, Pickle Weisse, Blonde Ale, and a couple of special secret potions!” It is a dog and child-friendly place with brewing equipment, indoor seating and a Biergarten structure outdoors.

    The Acopon Brewing Company was established by the same group who gave Dripping Springs The Barber Shop. Established to provide a focus on English-style ales, the team opened another taproom just a stone’s throw away from the Barber Shop's location. The name is taken from a “restorative or cordial medicine or application”. The taproom opened in September 2017. It provides a selection of craft beers – not just English ales. It even has wine, cider, and sodas for non-fans of craft beers. The brewery follows an “old world model where each town in Germany or England would have their own favorite local brewery”, and the beer could only be found and enjoyed there. They have board games for use by guests, and welcome dogs into the taproom. They don’t serve food, so guests are also welcome to bring food in.

    Adelbert’s Brewery is an award-winning microbrewery in Austin. Established in 2011 and named after founder Scott Hovey’s brother, George Adelbert “Del” Hovey, the brewery imbues all its brews with Del’s spirit of adventure and love for travel. The brewery is proud of their hands-on brewing process which uses only quality ingredients, and several of their brews have won many awards. There are year-round mainstays, fruited brews, and limited releases; some varieties are available in cans. Check out their very informative website. They tell you what’s available at the taproom and their suggested perfect pairings. You can learn all about Del’s travels that inspired many of their brews’ names and flavors, too. They have a partner food truck for the month to cater to customers' munchies. Tours of the brewery are by request only.

    The AquaBrew is a brewery, beer garden, restaurant, and events center located in downtown San Marcos. Opened in March 2016, it’s a spot where “craft beer, culinary delights, local music, and community come together” and aims to stimulate all the senses. Its events center can accommodate up to 500 people, and its rooftop bar and patio has bench-style seating that gives a casual and friendly vibe – perfect for taking in the Texas air. They have about 10 varieties on tap, and also usually feature a couple of guest breweries as well. Growlers and crowlers are available so you can take home a favorite brew. The place is open daily with both lunch and dinner menus. On weekend nights, they feature live music.

    Austin Beerworks' four co-founders believe that “beer brings people together”. To this end, they established Austin Beerworks so “people (will) have a better time”. Austin Beerworks beers are only sold within about 50 miles of Austin, but the brewery is gaining national recognition. They recently made Forbes 11 Best Beers list in 2018. The brand started with their first release in April 2011. Initially raising the eyebrows of craft beer fans by having them distributed in bold, attractive cans, it went from a startup to “growing by over 180% each year”. Today, they have “core four” beers - Peacemaker, Pearl-Snap, Flavor Country, and Fire Eagle. In addition, they have a rotating set of seasonal beers, and the Heavy Machinery seasonal IPA series. They also lay claim to a world's first - the 99-pack - a marketing gimmick to promote their Peacemaker "Anytime Ale". In 2016, Austin Chronicle dubbed them “the new official beer of Austin”.     Established in 2017, Barking Armadillo Brewing is a family owned and operated brewpub, committed to brewing quality beer using “carefully selected ingredients” to bring you fresh and tasty pours. The team started as “homebrewers” in 2013, experimenting with different beer styles, malts and hops until they have evolved their craft over the years. Their offerings include their staple brews as well as rotating guest taps, hand-selected wines, and non-alcoholic beverages. Their taproom is a “local neighborhood gathering space for all” and they look forward to bringing the community together through taproom events and plan to support local members of the community in any way they can.

    Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches started in 2017 as a family-owned and operated kolache bakery, taproom, and retail craft beer shop. Founders and brothers Noah and Josh Lit introduced Austinites to their preference of downing their kolaches with their favorite beers. Batch's beer selection came from local craft breweries and European breweries. In addition, they also had cans and bottles from many breweries, and coffee for non-beer drinkers. After a couple of years just serving other breweries’ beers with their kolaches, the brothers collaborated with John Snyder and Heath Shuford. Together, they launched a 2019 Kickstarter campaign to start their own brewery. Batch has since released their first batch for their 2nd year anniversary celebration in August 2019 – a “saison aged in Cabernet barrels with pink peppercorns, Texas wildflower honey, and dandelion”. They also sold Batch Bottle Club, Elite Brewery, and Beer for Life memberships, which ended in October 2019.

    Black Star Co-op in Austin, Texas is the world's first cooperatively-owned and worker self-managed brewpub.     Blue Owl Brewing specializes in sour beers. That means this is the place to go to in East Austin if you like sour beers. The beers range from “mildly sour to puckering after every sip” sour. Owner Suzy Shaffer says she has had taproom customers “who don’t like beer (and) we’ve been able to convert people (to drinking their beers)”. Co-owner Jeff Young says their “refreshing, light beers” are perfect for Austin’s warm weather. Their taproom opened in 2015. The pastel furniture and décor is a perfect backdrop to the sour beers they serve. They have three year-round products – Little Boss, Spirit Animal, and Professor Black – plus a selection of seasonal offerings. Their canned releases  are found “in select cities throughout Texas and California”, with some limited seasonal bottles released from time to time.     Bluebonnet Beer Company is a family-run brewery in Round Rock. The owners are husband and wife David and Clare Hulama. David holds a degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin. He acquired his brewing skills from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in London, and at University of California at Davis. Clare, meanwhile, is a sales and marketing veteran of over twenty years. The brewery and taproom they established in 2013 is a dream business nearly ten years in the making. On weekends, the children might even be at the taproom helping their parents. The brewery has four core beers year round, with fifteen seasonal beers available. The brewery also has the “very limited distribution” Immortal Ten Series. Available only in Round Rock, these beers are dedicated to the ten Round Rock students and staff of Baylor University who lost their lives in a tragic 1927 accident.

    Established in 2011 and open to the public in 2015, husband and wife team Greg and Julia Parma own and manage Bull Creek Brewing Company. In a reversal of roles, Julia retains the title of headbrewer although it’s Greg who comes up with the recipes. Julia works full time at the brewery and taproom and manages the actual brewing, bottling, and selling of their beers. Meanwhile, Greg’s job as a full time financial analyst keeps him away from the brewery most times. That puts Julia in a class of her own. The brewery is Liberty Hill’s (and Williamson County’s) first production brewery. There’s a patio with outdoor seating, and the brewery opens from Fridays to Sundays. The large open space surrounding the brewery's metal building makes it a great space for kids and pets. The brewery offers a Secret Sipper Society membership that gives members certain privileges at the brewery.

    The Central District Brewing – as the name implies – is centrally located in Downtown Austin. Opened in March 2019, they opened to serve local Austin beers. Starting May 2019, however, the brewery released their first batch of brews. The brewery is “very well located” at the ground floor of the parking garage next to the Austin Convention Center. That means you won’t ever have to worry about parking! It’s also “an easy walk to the nightlife on 6th Street”. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from nearby, and it’s “close to the Hilton and Fairmont”. That affirms the popular real estate saying of “location, location, location”! And the beers? The brewery won gold at the 2019 Great American Beer Festival within less than a year of operation for their Wit-tington and beat more established breweries. They’ve also started releasing their first sodas for non-beer drinkers!

    Nashville natives Ben Sabel and Judson Mulherin founded Circle Brewing Company in 2010 making it the oldest microbrewery in North Austin. Adhering to the principles of the German Purity Law, the duo believes in combining the Law "with a little creativity and Texas ingenuity”. This philosophy results in award winning beers including their Alibi Blonde, which won silver at the 2014 World Beer Cup. In 2016, their Archetype Historical IPA won gold at the 2016 edition. Their Doppel Blur Imperial Hefe, meanwhile, took bronze at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival. Circle Brewing is popular with the Austin community because they host several unique events each year. For example, in 2019, the 0.5K Marathon at the brewery's parking lot is on its 6th year. With beer in hand, donors participate in a race and proceeds go to a different charity each year. Another unique event had them team up with Equality Texas during Pride Month. The brewery sold Fanny Pack Kolsch in rainbow-colored cans and donated $1 for each can sold to the non-profit.

    Officially opened in the summer of 2019, Compadre Brewing is owned and operated by the Galvan family in Pflugerville/Round Rock. It’s a dog-friendly and family friendly brewery that started with a “Make Your Own Beer Kit” Christmas gift for Roel, the brewery’s owner and brewer. Together with his father Roy, the two set out to discover the world of craft beers, which culminated in their opening Compadre Brewing. As fate would have it, the family took over a short-lived brewery that used to exist at their present location. The brewery soft-opened with their Cinco De Cele(brew)cion last May 5, and served about 32 different craft beers on tap, including their own creations. A few months into their opening, the reviews have been great:
    • “It is awesome. Friendly staff, good beers and plenty of options of other local beers”
    • “Solid selection of beers”
    • “They like to push flavor profiles and add depth to the beer (which is) a good thing”

    The Draught House Pub and Brewery has had a long history. Celebrating its 50th year in 2019, the first owners were Wayne and Gay Overton in 1969. They ran the pub for 25 years until Wayne passed on. The building and the pub changed hands a couple of times until current owner Josh Wilson took over in 1999. In the intervening years, with a brewery system installed in 1995, the pub started brewing its own beers, and the number of taps increased to 74. It’s included in "America's Best Beer Bars" by Playboy Magazine, maybe back when Playboy was still a purveyor of good taste. This is just, however, among many other accolades from different publications. With “thousands of scrawled messages carved into the wooden tables”, meanwhile, it has seen some of its patrons grow up. If the newer reviews on review sites are any indication, however, it’s going to be around for 50 years more.

    Here are a couple of reviews about Family Business Beer Company (FBBC):
    • “First of all, this is owned by Jensen Ackles. That is all you need to know.”
    • “To be honest, I came in hopes of spotting some celebrities…”  
    That certainly grabs one’s attention. ICYMI – Jensen Ackles co-stars in the science-fiction TV series “Supernatural”. Jensen’s wife Danneel, his brother-in-law Gino Graul, Danneel’s parents, and head brewer Nate Seal complete the family that owns and runs FBBC. FBBC is “a destination microbrewery and tasting room”. That means expansive grounds, outdoor shaded seating at The Oak Grove, a fenced-in playground for kids, live entertainment, and delicious Cajun food courtesy of their partner food truck (from Jep’s Southern Roots of “Duck Dynasty” fame). And, yes, the beers are the real stars, in case you’re wondering, including German-style pilsner Golden Age, a 2019 GABF silver medal winner. Pro tip: They offer year-round discounts to all military, veterans, and first responders!

    Friends and Allies Brewing Company founders Ben Sabin and Devin Ponds are “industry professionals”. The homebrewing enthusiasts bonded over their passion but charted different paths. Ponds moved to California and Sabin remaining in Austin. Both worked in the craft beer industry. Their passion eventually brought them back together in Austin and they hired Nathan Crane as head brewer for their new brewery. The company’s name is the Hasinais meaning for the word “Tejas” (or, “Texas”), which refers to a friend or ally. It reflects the company’s aim to be deeply rooted in Austin’s community. With a focus on “West Coast techniques”, the brewery “produces uniquely Texas beers steeped in West Coast brewing techniques”. Even their logo reflects this “dual state” and shows a wolf and a bear. Their current lineup consists of four core beers.
