Founded in 2012, Pinthouse Pizza is a brewpub that offers a great selection of “delicious and unique handcrafted beers and pizzas.” They make their own hop-forward craft beers, brewed in-house, and also features a great selection of guest craft beers on its 45 taps. The menu is not only made up of its classic and specialty pizzas, it also offers its signature “Off the Map Pies” and an array of tasty salads, appetizers and desserts. They were named Austin’s Best Brewpub and Best Food & Beer Spot of 2013 and won a Great American Beer Festival. They also received Bronze Medal for its Blind Jake Porter in 2013, and a Bronze Medal for its Jaguar Shark Bourbon Barrel Age Stout in 2014.

RentSch Brewery

Focusing on German style beers, RentSch Brewery is a craft brewery in Georgetown Texas that was founded by father and son David and Andrew Rentschler. The inspiration for opening a brewery began in Europe where Andrew was studying German. Their facility is run entirely on “wind and solar power,” making their production 100% renewable. Their selection of brews is a mix of both old and new world styles with something for everyone like “Hefeweizen, Weizenbock, Blonde, IPA and Special Releases.” High demand for beer quickly exceeded their production capacity leading to an expansion of what you see today. They have doubled the brewery’s size, increased production capacity tenfold and added a state of the art canning line to bring Rentsch to you. If you’re in the neighborhood, swing by their taproom and beergarden to get a real taste of the beergarden life.

Root Cellar Cafe and Brewery

Producing a range of locally sourced Belgian-style brews, Darkside Fermentation is located in the storage room of “The Root Cellar Cafe in San Marcos.” It started when Brewer and owner, Silas Parker approached The Root Cellar’s owner, Kyle Mylius in May 2009 to sell Darkside beer in the cafe. They offer Darkside’s flagship beer, “Mark of the Yeast: 78666” which is referred to by Parker as a “dark medieval ale.” This beer is nourishing and the finish lingers. Other beers in the Darkside lineup include the draught beers BrideAle and GroomsBeer, Weiz Guy, Golden Mean, and Pale Rider, a Belgian pale ale. Come in and try some these great beer that are brewed in-house. They also have a lot of seasonal flavors to choose from.

Roughhouse Brewing

Roughhouse Brewing is a family-run brewery that creates oak-fermented, American farmhouse beer on their ranch in San Marcos, Texas. Their American farmhouse beer complements the Texas backdrop which is dry, crisp and refreshing. They started Roughhouse Brewing in January 2019 with a drive to do meaningful work that brought the owners closer to their land and the community. The brewery and taproom are housed in a wooden barn with a welcoming, homey aesthetic, offering a range of beer as well as guest wine and cider. Their yeast-centric ales undergo 100-percent fermentation in American White Oak feeders using their house, mixed culture, which includes yeast harvested from the Pasternak Ranch. The expansive outdoor seating area at Roughhouse Brewing also includes a stage for live music every Saturday.

San Gabriel River Brewery is a small craft brewery that was established in 2015 just outside the Hill Country of Central Texas. They started home brewing in the garage, moved up to small building, until they got all of their licenses and built the new much larger building. Started out with 1 beer, San Gabriel River Brewery is now producing “8 different types of beer and ale ranging from a German Weiss up to a Honey Porter.” They keg and bottle their own products. For your drinking pleasure, they serve pints, tastings and growler fills at their tap room. San Gabriel River Brewery enjoys the rich craft of brewing beer and they look forward to providing a quality beer/ale for many years to come.

Southern Heights Brewing Co

Southern Heights Brewing Company is a colorful craft brewery owned by by Austin Russell and Chris Rich. They have a large tap room, offering a variety of house-brewed beer on tap and free wifi! The brewery is an expansive 7500 square feet and is dog-friendly, with plans for an outdoor patio. They have a chalkboard menu of beer, light colored wooden tables, and a wall of fermenters and brewing equipment. They brew their own craft beer and have several on tap available in flights or pints. They have a wonderful selection of IPA's which is probably the biggest in Austin, as well as a great selection of light beers and delicious dark beers. Strange Land Brewery

Strange Land Brewery takes inspiration from “authentic and historical brewing styles” to produce “delicious, high-quality beer”. The Austin-based brewery is currently in a partnership with Rentsch Brewery and uses Rentsch’s state of the art facility. Their lineup includes five flagship beers and five “small batch reserves”. Founders Adam Blumenshein and Tim Klatt follow “a traditional approach” when brewing their beers. This approach includes “keg conditioning” their beer, a more natural process of adding carbonation. This method makes the beers more flavorful and friendlier to people with gluten sensitivity. Despite its respect for traditions, however, the brewery doesn’t hesitate to go into “unexplored horizons”. The past, the founders say, directs them in their journey to create superior craft beers.

Texas Beer Company

Texas Beer Company is one of those success stories that really took off because of the community. Founded by J.D. Gins and Ian Davis, this Taylor-based brewery counts a gold medal win at the 2018 Great American Beer Festival for their Pecos Amber Lager among their many achievements. Both have J.D.’s ex-girlfriend to thank for J.D.’s first homebrewing kit, which prompted his passion for brewing. J.D. is the company’s brewmaster. The two friends were community organizers who met during Obama’s presidential campaign. Launched in May 2016, the brewery came to be with support from various sectors. Prior to launch, they got a leg up when Davis’ friend bought the building they’re located in. Meanwhile, the two were conducting tastings rent-free and getting valuable inputs from locals. With economic development incentives from the city council, a successful initial funding campaign, and a follow-up fund campaign for expansion, the brewery continues to benefit from the support of the community it serves.

The Brewtorium in Austin opened in March 2018 with the team of Chris, Whitney, Kristie, and Dave on board. Chris and Whitney, a husband and wife team and the founders of the brewery, had their first date at a pub and shared a deep love for craft beers. With Whitney as CEO and Chris as Head Brewer, they’ve taken in Executive Chef Dave to pair German-inspired food to go with German-style beers, the style preferred by Chris who’s of German ancestry. Restaurant-veteran Kristie, meanwhile, completes the group as General Manager. The Brewtorium has a spacious taproom and outdoor patio in N. Central Austin. Order their Tangerine Milkshake IPA and give support to Mother’s Milk Bank, which provides “life saving breast milk to the most fragile babies in need”. You might want to pair the brew with the Deviled Eggs. We hear it’s simply delicious! The brewery also serves a selection of wine, cider, mead, and sake.

Thirsty Planet Brewing Co

There’s nothing random about Thirsty Planet Brewing Company’s methods when it comes to brewing great craft beers. Everything has a purpose. For example, they started back in 2010 with just ales, which take less time than lagers. They donate tips gathered at their tasting room to charities, and sponsor several local charities whenever possible, including the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. Local artists get traction and support through their Brite Tank and Event Brite initiatives. They donate spent grains to local farmers, and recycle paper, cardboard, and glass products, too. Business decisions are purposeful, too. They celebrated their seventh year with the launch of Buckethead IPA sold in a special 7-pack beer. Of course, these came in a bucket shaped container. Watch out for the brewery’s taproom reopening. They closed the old one to concentrate on production and distribution, boosting their capacity and making them available on store shelves.

Twisted X Brewing Co

Located in Dripping Springs and open since 2011, Twisted X Brewing Co. proudly specializes in beers to share with friends and family. Using “high-quality, local products”, their beers have a “Texas-influenced, Mexican-style” that will make you “rethink how you view beer”. The brewery started out “with the goal of educating people how different ingredients can make complex beers”. Today, they continue to use the 3BBL system they started the brewery with, which allows them constantly to experiment and develop new recipes. The brewery provides free tours for guests to learn about their brewing process. It's at 1pm and 5pm on Saturdays, and 1pm and 3pm on Sundays. Drop by the brewery often. There's bound to be a new small batch beer on tap.

Uncultured Ales

Austin’s Uncultured Ales is a “very low production brewery” specializing in aged sour beers. Founder Cass Everitt is a self-taught homebrewer who happens to like sour beers. He specializes in what he calls “laissez-faire fermentation”. The process can take several months or even years, which accounts for his low production capacity for now. The brewery also doesn’t have a taproom just yet, but has managed to produce eight varieties. These include Fugarillo, a light golden dry hopped sour, and C-A55, a sour red ale. For distribution, he relies on Flood Independent Distribution. Meanwhile, fans of his beers can check Uncultured Ales’ Facebook page for information on where to find his beers.
