Saint Arnold Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 12.82 mi

Saint Arnold Brewing Company is known for brewing world-class beers and delivering them to the customers as fresh as possible. Founded by Brock Wagner and Kevin Bartol, they chose Houston because it was the "largest city in the country that did not have a microbrewery." Brock was a longtime homebrewer and had considered opening a brewery as far back as college. Seven years after graduating, he revisited the idea, enlisted Kevin's help and the brewery was off and running. They brew several different beers that are available year round, as well as seasonal and a few single batch brews. They have a small crew that does everything at the brewery from brewing the beer, filtering the beer to bottling, and selling them. They are available in bars, restaurants, grocery stores, liquor stores and warehouse stores throughout Texas and Louisiana.

Twisted Acre Brewery

Craft Brewery in Cypress - 13.02 mi

When Robert Brogdon and wife Nicole opened their brewery Twisted Acre Brewery and taproom in December 2018, it was the fulfillment of a dream. The couple had been homebrewing since 2012, starting with Nicole giving Robert a home brewing kit. Since then, they’ve enjoyed a reputation at local festivals with their beers. Despite an unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign, the couple went ahead with their dreams. They even quit their jobs to set up the brewery. “I told him if we waited until we had enough money to do this, we'd be waiting forever," Nicole says in an interview prior to the opening of the brewery. The brewery currently has a 3.5 BBL equipment. They would have wanted something larger if the Kicstarter campaign had been successful. For their beers, the couple focuses on “unexpected flavors”. They’ve incorporated “rich flavors like toffee and caramel”. A butterscotch cream ale, Buttercream, is one of their more popular beers.

Under The Radar Brewery

Craft Brewery in Houston - 13.27 mi

As with other craft breweries, Under The Radar Brewery got its start in homebrewing. Its three founders brewed in their garage until they realized they could bring their hobby to the next level. Starting out small and opening without so much as a sign, the brewery’s name suggests how things were initially done at the brewery. It also found a perfect spot among condos and townhomes, and further bolsters the under-the-radar nature of the brewery. Their taproom, though small, has an outdoor area, and serves five “usuals” (their core beers) and a couple of seasonal/ special beers. It’s also kid- and dog-friendly, much like a backyard in one’s neighborhood. They’re not canning their brews yet, but do check their website for updates on where their beers are available.

True Anomaly Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Houston - 13.32 mi

True Anomaly Brewing specializes in “hop-forward ales, Belgian-style ales, and wild/sour fermented ‘explorations’”. With this kind of lineup of craft beers, the anomaly would be the right word. The story behind the brewery’s name is also based on the founders' day jobs. Also, the founders started as homebrewers. And, 10 years after and countless beer batches brewed, they finally decided to start a brewery. True Anomaly is also space-themed. This includes the building's exteriors. And also, the “contemporary-industrial interiors”. Plus, the NASA posters hanging from the walls and the names of its beers. All of which are related to the founders’ backgrounds.

Wicked Boxer Brewing

Craft Brewery in Cypress - 15.16 mi

They also wanted to create a “community-driven business”, which explains their successful Kickstarter campaign. One of their community projects include collaborating with Houston Boxer Rescue to help raise funds and hold adoption events. Combining their passion for craft beer and boxers, they named their brewery after the traits of their beloved breed – “playful, fun, entertaining, and of course oh-so-wicked!” Note: They are in the process of moving out of their Mueschke Rd taproom. Watch their social media pages for the grand reopening at 8190 Barker Cypress Rd. Suite 300.

Fire Ant Brewing

Craft Brewery in Tomball - 16.18 mi

It took quite a while for the owners of Fire Ant Brewing to have their dream brewery – almost eight years, they say. A true brewpub, Fire Ant Brewing also features a restaurant and a bar patio that’s been voted #1 in Tomball. The brewpub serves the town known for its strong German heritage, and also the surrounding areas of Woodlands, Spring, Magnolia and the Cypress. With this in mind, the brewpub made sure to have a few German-inspired food and beers on the menu. Fire Ant is great for families and dog-friendly. Less than a year from their first anniversary, the brewery is barely able to keep up with the demand and is eyeing to open a second location. The brewery specializes in “tart fruited sours, pastry stouts, hop-loaded IPAs, and milkshake IPAs”. Enjoy them at the 2,000 square meter air-conditioned taproom, possibly including the “colorful” Smarty Stone beers. This line of beers took inspiration from the colors of Marvel’s Infinity Stones. The 14-acre property the church sits on houses a taproom appropriately named “The Sanctuary”. With a large selection of brew creations, the so-called Houston prodigal son Harl offers his guests a choice between his Saints or Sinners line-up. The Saint beers are identifiable with their mostly white labels and described as “more traditional, ‘sessionable’ beers with lower ABVs”. The Sinners line, meanwhile, is denoted with mostly black labels, tap handles, or cans, and consist of “more unorthodox and less common ‘big’ beers”. These beers have higher ABVs, and therefore, are “more challenging”. The taproom is open Thursdays to Sundays, with food trucks available on Saturdays. Guests are welcome to bring outside food.
