Under The Radar Brewery

As with other craft breweries, Under The Radar Brewery got its start in homebrewing. Its three founders brewed in their garage until they realized they could bring their hobby to the next level. Starting out small and opening without so much as a sign, the brewery’s name suggests how things were initially done at the brewery. It also found a perfect spot among condos and townhomes, and further bolsters the under-the-radar nature of the brewery. Their taproom, though small, has an outdoor area, and serves five “usuals” (their core beers) and a couple of seasonal/ special beers. It’s also kid- and dog-friendly, much like a backyard in one’s neighborhood. They’re not canning their brews yet, but do check their website for updates on where their beers are available.

Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company

This “home-away-from-home” invites guests to “a welcoming place” and features an extensive selection of house brews and craft beers from other popular Texas breweries. There is wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages, of course, and the food menu is just as extensive. Because it’s a sports bar, after all, there are 5 large projection screens and 24 LED TVs. Karbach Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Houston - 18.85 mi

Co-founders Ken Goodman and Chuck Robertson started with the distribution company CR Goodman Distribution Co., which brought in various labels into Texas. In 2008, they set out establish their own brewery, and by 2011, Karbach Brewing Company set up brewing operations in Houston. The company grew rapidly fast and the company moved to a larger brewhouse by 2014. In May 2016, the brewery added an on-site restaurant and biergarten. To much publicity in November 2016, the brewery announced the company's acquisition by Anheuser-Busch InBev. With this development, the brewery expects to expand capacity to 150,000 barrels per year in 2019. The brewery continues to produce popular its "mainstays" Hopadillo IPA, Love Street Kolsch-Style Blonde, and Crawford Bock, among others. Baileson Brewing Company

Established by husband Adam Cryer and his wife, Sarah Pope, the Baileson Brewing Company features two of man’s best friends – beers and pooches. The “pooches” part come from the company’s name – a combination of the couple’s two dogs Bailey and Jameson. (They have a third fur baby called Beau, who came later.) The brewery, of course, supplies the handcrafted beers, especially ales. Located in the outskirts of the Rice Village area in Houston, the brewery was an old gas station built in 1950 until the building became an auto-service station in the mid-1970s. The couple retained the exterior canopy, which serves as the brewpub’s patio, and fitted it with picnic tables. They allow non-beer fans to bring wine from their neighbor next door, and allow outside food. The place, of course, is “dog-friendliest”, with the couple claiming that their pooches “have better social lives” than their humans.

Whole Food Market Brewing Company

Whole Foods Market Brewing is one of two Whole Foods U.S. locations with a brewery inside the store. Its current brewer, James Carlyle, took over after his mentor Dave Ohmer left. According to James, the brewery is “an off the wall concept of grocery store and brewery in one”. This Houston location on 1700 Post Oak Blvd also distributes to a few bars including The Flying Saucer and Craft Beer Cellar. The other location in San Jose also has a brewery but does not serve other accounts. The brewery’s opening makes it Spring’s first and the 53^rd for the Greater Houston area. The secluded but inviting taproom and brewery has over 6,600 square feet of space for guests. The indoor and outdoor seating areas easily accommodate over 100 people. There’s a fenced in playground for kids with plans to add more kid-friendly stuff. Food trucks will provide the food although guests are welcome to bring in their own. The brewery is also ideal for owners to bring their dogs. For options other than beer, the brewery has cider, root beer, and a selection of wines.

Here’s a hint – their co-founders worked at Texas oilfields at some point, but their love for beers led them to brewing beers instead. Bakfish Brewing Company
