Zilker Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Austin - 18.98 mi

Clark brothers Patrick and Forrest and their best friend from high school Marco Rodriguez started brewing in 2008. After winning numerous awards in brewing competitions, the three decided to dive in and open “the brewery of their dreams”. They eventually quit their jobs and pooled their savings, and with help from outside inventors, opened in April 2015. Many breweries usually locate themselves in industrial parks on the outskirts of town. Zilker Brewing Company, meanwhile, is on East 6th, which makes it an ideal urban craft brewery and taproom in “the heart of East Austin”. They currently have a lineup of four "mainstays" and about 15 seasonal brews. To sample their delicious beers, proceed to the brewery's “sleek and industrial” taproom. The designers meant it as a place to bring the community together. Zilker Brewing Co has been included in our list of 10 Must-Try Craft Breweries in Austin (2020). Check out the link to read more!

Batch – Craft Beer & Kolaches

Craft Brewery in Austin - 21.01 mi

Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches started in 2017 as a family-owned and operated kolache bakery, taproom, and retail craft beer shop. Founders and brothers Noah and Josh Lit introduced Austinites to their preference of downing their kolaches with their favorite beers. Batch's beer selection came from local craft breweries and European breweries. In addition, they also had cans and bottles from many breweries, and coffee for non-beer drinkers. After a couple of years just serving other breweries’ beers with their kolaches, the brothers collaborated with John Snyder and Heath Shuford. Together, they launched a 2019 Kickstarter campaign to start their own brewery. Batch has since released their first batch for their 2nd year anniversary celebration in August 2019 – a “saison aged in Cabernet barrels with pink peppercorns, Texas wildflower honey, and dandelion”. The name is taken from a “restorative or cordial medicine or application”. The taproom opened in September 2017. It provides a selection of craft beers – not just English ales. It even has wine, cider, and sodas for non-fans of craft beers. The brewery follows an “old world model where each town in Germany or England would have their own favorite local brewery”, and the beer could only be found and enjoyed there. Draught House Pub and Brewery

Craft Brewery in Austin - 22.06 mi

The Draught House Pub and Brewery has had a long history. Celebrating its 50th year in 2019, the first owners were Wayne and Gay Overton in 1969. They ran the pub for 25 years until Wayne passed on. The building and the pub changed hands a couple of times until current owner Josh Wilson took over in 1999. In the intervening years, with a brewery system installed in 1995, the pub started brewing its own beers, and the number of taps increased to 74. It’s included in "America's Best Beer Bars" by Playboy Magazine, maybe back when Playboy was still a purveyor of good taste. This is just, however, among many other accolades from different publications. With “thousands of scrawled messages carved into the wooden tables”, meanwhile, it has seen some of its patrons grow up. If the newer reviews on review sites are any indication, however, it’s going to be around for 50 years more.

Wild Bunch Brewing Co.

Craft Brewery in Georgetown - 23.17 mi

Open since 2017 and located “in the middle of nowhere”, Wild Bunch Brewery announces its presence once you see its handwritten sign. Brew master Jarle Lillemoen owns and operates Wild Bunch Brewing Company. He and Managing Member Jamie Caras both hold doctoral degrees in biochemistry, which should come in handy at the brewery. Calling his beer the “best damn beer in Texas”, Jarle only uses “high quality ingredients” in his “100% unfiltered beers”. He also uses the traditional method of brewing using an open propane flame throughout the process. He is also non-traditional in the age of state-of-the-art brewing equipment. Yet, his method yields “richer, more intense flavors and colors”. A blogger writes that Wild Bunch as of October 2019 offers seven beers served in jam jars at their taproom. Not bad for a brewery that’s designed and hand-built by Jarle himself. Finally, prior to establishing Wild Bunch, Jarle was the master distiller at Bone Spirits Distillery in Smithville.

With Whitney as CEO and Chris as Head Brewer, they’ve taken in Executive Chef Dave to pair German-inspired food to go with German-style beers, the style preferred by Chris who’s of German ancestry. Restaurant-veteran Kristie, meanwhile, completes the group as General Manager. The Brewtorium has a spacious taproom and outdoor patio in N. Central Austin. Order their Tangerine Milkshake IPA and give support to Mother’s Milk Bank, which provides “life saving breast milk to the most fragile babies in need”. You might want to pair the brew with the Deviled Eggs. We hear it’s simply delicious! The brewery also serves a selection of wine, cider, mead, and sake.

Frontyard Brewing

Craft Brewery in Austin - 23.92 mi

The brewery currently has a lineup of five beers. These consist of the Belgian Blond Ale, Rye IPA, Coffee Milk Stout, Oatmeal Stout, and Belgian Golden Ale. Instead of putting up their own taproom, a “hallmark” of any brewery, the brewery upon launch upended the traditional brewery business plan by selling their beers first around Austin. As of October 2019, the brewery is busy with the construction of their “front yard”. When finished, it will house the brewery’s expanded facilities, and features the company’s very own taproom. Expected to open by spring 2020, owners and founders Kevin Jones and Chad Worner are hoping to see their fans in their “porch” and sipping on a pint. Meanwhile, Frontyard invites its fans to use the brewery's website to learn where their beers are available.
