Celis Brewery

Craft Brewery in Austin - 17.17 mi

The Celis Brewery name is synonymous with witbier or “white beer”. The name Celis had gone through two iterations previously. Pierre Celis, the legendary brewer, built two breweries - one in Belgium and another in Austin - which ended in "Faustian deals” and forced Pierre to give up the breweries he built. The beer world mourned Pierre's passing in 2011. He is credited with reviving witbier, which had all but died in the 1950s. Celis Brewery “2.0”, essentially the third iteration of the brewery, is by Christine Celis, Pierre’s daughter. With help from outside investors, the brewery and taproom opened in 2017. Using her father’s original recipes, Christine recreated the beers that were her father’s legacy. She also introduced new ones that promise to continue the family name’s legendary reputation. Daytona Camps, Christine's daughter, joins her mother at the brewery. Like her mother, she is also a brewer having perfected her brewing skills around the U.S. and in Europe. Celis Brewery has been included in our list of 10 Must-Try Craft Breweries in Austin (2020). Check out the link to read more!

Growler Room is Austin’s original growler fill station, with 30 taps in store! They’ve got beer, cider, mead, cold brew coffee, and ginger beer, which you can grab at the bar, or have a filled growler to go. The Growler Room prides itself as the “place where everybody knows your name,” having four people working the shifts and building a “warm and welcoming establishment.” Relax and hang out with friends, or make new ones as there is no live music or TVs like other bars. Instead, they’ve got board games, darts, crosswords, and even a “lively topic of conversation at the bar to engage in.” The drinks are the main focus, but people are welcome to bring food or have it delivered.

Strange Land Brewery

Craft Brewery in Georgetown - 18.89 mi

Strange Land Brewery takes inspiration from “authentic and historical brewing styles” to produce “delicious, high-quality beer”. The Austin-based brewery is currently in a partnership with Rentsch Brewery and uses Rentsch’s state of the art facility. Their lineup includes five flagship beers and five “small batch reserves”. Founders Adam Blumenshein and Tim Klatt follow “a traditional approach” when brewing their beers. This approach includes “keg conditioning” their beer, a more natural process of adding carbonation. This method makes the beers more flavorful and friendlier to people with gluten sensitivity. Despite its respect for traditions, however, the brewery doesn’t hesitate to go into “unexplored horizons”. The past, the founders say, directs them in their journey to create superior craft beers.

RentSch Brewery

Craft Brewery in Georgetown - 18.90 mi

Focusing on German style beers, RentSch Brewery is a craft brewery in Georgetown Texas that was founded by father and son David and Andrew Rentschler. The inspiration for opening a brewery began in Europe where Andrew was studying German. Their facility is run entirely on “wind and solar power,” making their production 100% renewable. Their selection of brews is a mix of both old and new world styles with something for everyone like “Hefeweizen, Weizenbock, Blonde, IPA and Special Releases.” High demand for beer quickly exceeded their production capacity leading to an expansion of what you see today. They have doubled the brewery’s size, increased production capacity tenfold and added a state of the art canning line to bring Rentsch to you. If you’re in the neighborhood, swing by their taproom and beergarden to get a real taste of the beergarden life.

Family Business Beer Company

Craft Brewery in Dripping Springs - 18.99 mi

Here are a couple of reviews about Family Business Beer Company (FBBC):
  • “First of all, this is owned by Jensen Ackles. That is all you need to know.”
  • “To be honest, I came in hopes of spotting some celebrities…”
That certainly grabs one’s attention. ICYMI – Jensen Ackles co-stars in the science-fiction TV series “Supernatural”. Jensen’s wife Danneel, his brother-in-law Gino Graul, Danneel’s parents, and head brewer Nate Seal complete the family that owns and runs FBBC. FBBC is “a destination microbrewery and tasting room”. That means expansive grounds, outdoor shaded seating at The Oak Grove, a fenced-in playground for kids, live entertainment, and delicious Cajun food courtesy of their partner food truck (from Jep’s Southern Roots of “Duck Dynasty” fame). And, yes, the beers are the real stars, in case you’re wondering, including German-style pilsner Golden Age, a 2019 GABF silver medal winner. Draught House Pub and Brewery

Craft Brewery in Austin - 19.56 mi

The Draught House Pub and Brewery has had a long history. Celebrating its 50th year in 2019, the first owners were Wayne and Gay Overton in 1969. They ran the pub for 25 years until Wayne passed on. The building and the pub changed hands a couple of times until current owner Josh Wilson took over in 1999. In the intervening years, with a brewery system installed in 1995, the pub started brewing its own beers, and the number of taps increased to 74. It’s included in "America's Best Beer Bars" by Playboy Magazine, maybe back when Playboy was still a purveyor of good taste. This is just, however, among many other accolades from different publications. With “thousands of scrawled messages carved into the wooden tables”, meanwhile, it has seen some of its patrons grow up. If the newer reviews on review sites are any indication, however, it’s going to be around for 50 years more.

Craft Brewery in Austin - 19.74 mi

Restaurant-veteran Kristie, meanwhile, completes the group as General Manager. The Brewtorium has a spacious taproom and outdoor patio in N. Central Austin. Order their Tangerine Milkshake IPA and give support to Mother’s Milk Bank, which provides “life saving breast milk to the most fragile babies in need”. You might want to pair the brew with the Deviled Eggs. We hear it’s simply delicious! The brewery also serves a selection of wine, cider, mead, and sake.

Bear King Brewing

Craft Brewery in Marble Falls - 20.20 mi

Bear King Brewing Company owes its name to the legend of the bear king of Marble Falls. Guidry brothers JD, Grant, and Blake, together with Jackie Blakely, their sister, joined forces and took on different roles in putting up the company. Each sibling undertakes a different side of the business with JD, a professional brewer, as head brewer. The brewery and taproom offers the community of Marble Falls a place to gather because they believe that “stories… whether tall tales or plain truth, are (best) shared over a beer”. They currently have six beers on tap, with plans to can their brews. The taproom and restaurant is 5,500 square feet of indoor seating for 200 guests. There’s outside seating at the “Beargarten”, with patio games and live music for the family-friendly space. Just like the local legend that inspired its name, they hope that their guests can create legends of their own.

Double Horn Brewing Co

Craft Brewery in Marble Falls - 20.31 mi

Originally established by two husband-and-wife teams in 2011, Double Horn Brewing Company has been under new ownership since Fall 2016. The brewery continues to take pride in “providing some of the best beer in Central Texas”. The brewery takes its name from a tiny Texas town founded in 1885. It refers to an incident at the nearby creek where the “remains of two bucks with interlocked antlers” were found. Presumably, the deers tussled and died with antlers entangled. The brewery hopes “to capture, preserve, and celebrate the pioneering spirit and inventiveness” of the early Texas communities. At the time of its opening, the Double Horn was the only brewery in Burnet County. It still is. Despite the change in ownership, they continue to serve both lunch and dinner. Meanwhile, the other founders own or co-own several bars and restaurants around Austin. Batch – Craft Beer & Kolaches

Craft Brewery in Austin - 22.31 mi

Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches started in 2017 as a family-owned and operated kolache bakery, taproom, and retail craft beer shop. Founders and brothers Noah and Josh Lit introduced Austinites to their preference of downing their kolaches with their favorite beers. Batch's beer selection came from local craft breweries and European breweries. In addition, they also had cans and bottles from many breweries, and coffee for non-beer drinkers. After a couple of years just serving other breweries’ beers with their kolaches, the brothers collaborated with John Snyder and Heath Shuford. Together, they launched a 2019 Kickstarter campaign to start their own brewery. Batch has since released their first batch for their 2nd year anniversary celebration in August 2019 – a “saison aged in Cabernet barrels with pink peppercorns, Texas wildflower honey, and dandelion”. They also sold Batch Bottle Club, Elite Brewery, and Beer for Life memberships, which ended in October 2019.

Central District Brewing

Craft Brewery in Austin - 22.36 mi

The Central District Brewing – as the name implies – is centrally located in Downtown Austin. Opened in March 2019, they opened to serve local Austin beers. Starting May 2019, however, the brewery released their first batch of brews. The brewery is “very well located” at the ground floor of the parking garage next to the Austin Convention Center. That means you won’t ever have to worry about parking! It’s also “an easy walk to the nightlife on 6th Street”. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from nearby, and it’s “close to the Hilton and Fairmont”. That affirms the popular real estate saying of “location, location, location”! And the beers? The brewery won gold at the 2019 Great American Beer Festival within less than a year of operation for their Wit-tington and beat more established breweries. They’ve also started releasing their first sodas for non-beer drinkers!
