Aledo city was founded in 1879. At the time, there was a post office named Parker’s Station. Since Aledo was in Parker County, confusion would arise as regards the distribution of mail. Most mail destined for Parker’s Station would end up at Weatherford. To address this confusion, the Postal Department requested that the name be changed to one that wouldn’t cause confusion. The department went ahead to ask for name suggestions. A railroad engineer suggested that the city be named Aledo in memory of his hometown in Illinois by the same name. The department approved the name and is still in use to date. Renelibrary, CC BY-SA 3.0 <>, via Wikimedia Commons
