Located in Smith County in the US state of Texas, Arp sits on a 2.5 square miles area that, in the pre-Columbian periods, was occupied by the Caddoan people. Arp's population was 970 people as of the 2010 census. The city was first called Bissa in 1800 but was later renamed Jarvis Junction and then Strawberry. It was then named Arp after Bill Arp, a comedian that was popular back in the 19th century. It is widely believed that the name was preferred by strawberry producers. Being a short name, the strawberry producers would save time while marking their crates.
