Texas Ale Project

Craft Brewery in Dallas - 16.30 mi

Texas Ale Project has been brewing beers in Dallas since 2014, but there are some unique twists to their story. For one, they recently launched their first hard seltzer beverage, TAP WTR hard seltzers. This line is an “alternative offering for those who are gluten-intolerant” and want a “lower calorie alcoholic beverage”. They’re also the first brewery and taproom “built from the ground up” since the 1800s. The brewery is a veteran-owned family affair. Navy veteran Brent Thompson is Head Brewer, and wife Kat is CEO. Kat’s father, David Stevens, an entrepreneur and also a veteran, heads sales and business development. Kat’s mom Shelley, an interior designer, led the design team for the brewery’s construction. The company’s facilities at the Design District are family and dog friendly. They have free brewery tours every first Saturday of the month at 2pm.

The Manhattan Project Beer Company

Craft Brewery in Dallas - 16.63 mi

The Manhattan Project Beer Company’s name is a nod to the scientific way the brewery’s founders create their beers. Of course, the brewery’s name also makes for cool beer names. Consider Particles Collide (a Hazy IPA), Atomic Alliance (a piña colada IPA), and their infamous Bikini Atoll (a Gose). The most fascinating thing about The Manhattan Project Beer Company besides their delicious beers, however, is how the founders upended everyone’s business plan. The founders essentially proved that one didn’t need a taproom or own a brewery to succeed in the brewery business. Their story started with a brew created for a wedding, which led to a win at a homebrewing competition, and finally culminated in their “renting brewing space like a room on Airbnb”. Since those early days in 2016, founders Misty Sanford, Karl Sanford, and Jeremy Brodt have enjoyed a cult-like following. They’re expecting to open their taproom in late 2019.

Four Bullets Brewery

Craft Brewery in Richardson - 16.75 mi

Four Bullets Brewery opened in May 2014 and takes its name from a Texas Hold ‘Em poker term meaning four aces. Owners and friends Andrew Smeeton and Jeff Douglas are both poker fans and former homebrewers. Drew, a native Englishman, and Jeff prefer to create handcrafted “English Ales with a Texas twist”. The brewery is Richardson’s first and fondly called “the smallest brewery in Dallas”. The brewery started with just four craft beer varieties when they opened, and now has over a dozen varieties. The owners like to say they are not in competition with big, large breweries. Instead, they wish to be known as “a neighborhood brewery catering to the Richardson area”.  With tasty offerings like their popular Royal Flush Red Irish-style pale ale, all Four Bullets beers have casino or poker-themed names.

Their Coma Burger is mentioned in several blogs and testimonies of its goodness abound. The brains behind BrainDead are Sam Wynne, Jeff Fryman, brewer Andrew Huerter, chef David Peña, and their slogan says it all: “Beer. Food. Good.”

The brewery has a lineup of nine year-round beers including the popular Dallas Blonde. They also have several other seasonal beers. Brewery tours are at 1pm only at their Deep Ellum headquarters. Armadillo Ale Works

Craft Brewery in Denton - 19.01 mi

It was a long road to opening their own brewery for Armadillo Ale Works founders Bobby Mullins and Yianni Arestis. The brewery finally opened its doors on June 1, 2018, but their story starts much earlier. It actually starts in 2010 when the resilient duo won a grant to pursue their dream of brewing their own beers. Since then, they’ve run a successful Kickstarter campaign, had a location deal that went south, and overcame alienating their fans because of a supply disruption.  Uniquely, the brewery claims the distinction of having won prestigious industry awards without ever having its own brewing facility. Now settled at their Denton location, they continue to craft their award-winning beers and sodas. They even brew coffee at the taproom. The space is also available for special event venue rentals, with liquid refreshments from the brewery, of course.

This means one can have a beer or two after a walk, run, or bike around the White Rock Lake. It’s perfect for those seeking a place to rest and relax. The brewpub also offers up 36 beers on tap. Some beers also come from the brewery’s own lineup of craft beers. This lineup also includes their 2019 US Open Beer Championships silver medal winner IPO IPA. Denton County Brewing Company

Craft Brewery in Denton - 19.30 mi

Denton County Brewing Company is the brainchild of Seth and Jen Morgan. The husband and wife initially envisioned the brewery as “Denton’s second living room”, where Denton residents can “(hang) out on your couch”. These days, they call it Denton’s “adult playground (with) board games, trivia nights, delicious appetizers, and the coolest bar staff”. The brewery has been serving craft beers “born and brewed in Denton” since 2017. Besides their house brews, they also serve a selection of wine, sake, ciders, and beers from other local breweries. For $1,000, customers can buy a “Biersal”. With reference to German mythical folklore, Biersal members get a free beer for life. HopFusion Ale Works

Craft Brewery in Fort Worth - 23.23 mi

Owned by Macy Moore and Matt Hill, HopFusion Ale Works celebrates the craft beer experience. Both owners are passionate about innovation and art, and they’ve fused these concepts into each craft beer they’ve created. “Craft beer is about the experience”, they both say. With many passions between them, they came up with the idea of brewing beers for a living in December 2014. After many months of "blood, sweat, and tears", they began distributing their beer creations in the summer of 2016, and opened the taproom in November. In their beer brewing journey, they’ve discovered that “craft beer is… about community and friends”. To this end, they’ve built a strong following for their beers. Their honey vanilla blonde ale “Feisty Blonde” won medals at the 2017 and 2018 U.S. Open Beer Championship, among other award-winning beers.
