Edinburg city is located in Hildago County in the US state of Texas. It also serves as the county seat of the county. According to a 2019 estimate, Edinburg’s population stands at 101,170. In 1908, Dennis Chapin, Plutarco de la Vina, Argyle McAllen, William Briggs and John Closner founded a new community where Edinburg currently stands. The community’s town square was situated at the current crossroads of State Highway 107 and US Highway 281. They named the community Chapin in honor of its developers. The town would later be named Edinburg in honor John Young, a prominent businessman and native of Edinburg, Scotland.
