San Juan is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. It has a population of 33.000. The city is known for the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle, one of the largest churches in South Texas. The town was formed in 1909 but the community was there in the 18th century. In the 1970 a deranged pilot crashed in the shrine. The church took heavy damage and it wasn’t in use until 1980s after a 1.5-million-dollar restaurant.
