Langtry is an unincorporated coterie located in Val Verde County in Texas. The community was originally founded in 1882. It used to be a grading camp called “Eagle Nest”. The coterie was later renamed for George Langtry who was an engineer. Two years later, the town was granted a post office. The town had a railroad depot, and a general store as well. The community was in decline after the highway was moved more to the north in the early 1900s. The town’s population began to diminish. In the 1920s it was around 50, and in the 1970s it was 40. The community’s population as of 2016 is only 12.
