Malone is a town in Texas that distinctively sits at the junction of the State Highway 171 and Farm Road 308 in Hill County. The first townsite was laid around 1884 and 1885 by Alonzo Dru Walling. In 1902, the townsite moved about two miles to the East to serve as a stop of the International-Great Northern Railroad. In 1903, the Trinity and Brazos railroad extended across the county. The tracks would intersect the International-Great Northern Railroad at Walling. The extension led to Walling’s proposal of the establishment of a new town. The plan aimed to boost the economy of this area and maintain Malone's control of the rail traffic. The town is named after the International-Great Northern Railroad President William Malone.
