Mexia is a city located in Limestone County in Texas. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was 7,459. Many outsiders mispronounce the name of the city, and the town has a motto mentioning this: A great place to live, no matter how you pronounce it”. The city was named after Jose Antonio Mexia, who was a Mexican Hero, who fought for the Texas Army during the Texas Revolution. The town also hosts an annual Juneteenth festival celebrating freedom, since June the nineteenth 1865. The town’s total area is 5.2 square miles, all of it is land. Mexia Independent School District distributes the town.
