The census-designated place of Redford is found along Farm 170 and the Rio Grande in Presidio County. The area was established in 1876 as El Polvo before changing its name. El Polvo is a Spanish name referring to dust. In 1911, the first post office was established in this place. The town grew steadily, and by 1914, the area had established four general stores. Later in 1970, Redford had built a church and a school. Lucia Rede Madrid, a retired teacher, and descendant of the original settlers established a library in a store she operated in this area in 1979. The store was closed in 1990, and since then, the establishment remained as a museum and library.
