Westminster is an unincorporated community and a Census-designated place in Collin County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The community was established in 1860, when it was still known as Seven Points. Westminster College was established a few years later, and it was named after the Westminster city of Maryland. Within a year of the school’s inauguration, townsmen decided to rename the community’s name after that college. In 1899, a post office was granted and in 1914, Westminster was incorporated. The following year, a railroad was built and the town became a prominent cotton market and retail trade center. Despite the Great Depression and the employment opportunities in Dallas after the WWII, the town and its townsmen recovered and continued to grow. The city was disincorporated in 2005 but it has become a popular spot for motorcyclists since then. As of 2017, it has an estimated population of 1,118.
