Wingate is an unincorporated community situated in Runnels County in Texas. The area where Wingate now is was initially settled by a few pioneer families in the early 1890s. The community’s school was established in 1891 and a post office opened one year later on the fourteenth of March. The post office still operates the community even though Wingate is not incorporated. W.J. Wingate was an attorney from Ballinger and was the town’s namesake. Wingate Independent School District was added to the Winters Independent School District which now distributes the town’s public education system.
