Darby Farms Natural Beef is an East Texas-based beef and dairy farm located near Gilmer Texas which is approximately 100 miles east of Dallas. They have approximately 200 beef cows that are all bred to registered Black Angus bulls. They raised their animals humanely and naturally without using any hormones or antibiotics implanted on the cattle. All their cows feed on Bermuda/Bahai grass-based pastures. These cows are bred to registered Black Angus bulls which results in a calf that is at least 1/2 Black Angus. Many of their cows are 1/2 Angus which makes their calves 3/4 Angus. This is the same type of cattle as those in the popular Certified Angus Beef program. You can buy beef by the whole, half or quarter. Smaller packages are also available for those who have limited freezer space. You can also inquire about their free shipping or delivery.

The term “grass fed” (as opposed to grain fed) refers to meat obtained from cows that were raised on a diet of grass and other forage, such as clover; situated in pasture and, when fresh grass is unavailable, hay. This helps to denote the difference between livestock that has been raised in feedlots and generally fed a diet of soy and corn, versus animals that have had access to their natural feeding environment in pasture, which contains grasses, wildflowers, and herbs. This term overlaps with “pasture-raised” and will usually be seen together. Grass-fed beef is also believed to taste better, and be better for the environment, too. There are several organizations that offer a certification for Grass Fed, such as the American Grassfed Association, Certified Grassfed by A Greener World, and Pasture for Life, to name a few.
