Beeville city was named after Bernard E. Bee, Sr. who served as War Secretary and the Secretary of State for Texas. It is the official headquarters of Bee County and had a population of 12,863, according to the 2010 census statistics. In addition to that, Beeville plays host to Coastal Bend College's main campus. Many of the city's commercial buildings, stately homes, and school buildings were designed by one of the greatest architects, William Charles Stephenson. The city is also home to the sculptures of Sir Lincoln and Mount Rushmore. The first settlers on the city’s original site on Poesta River were Hefferman, Carroll, and Burke families in the 1830s.
