Crosbyton is a city in and the county seat of Crosby County. It was named after General Land Office commissioner Stephen Crosby and was organized in 1886. The area was a cattle country until the C.B. Livestock Company purchased 90,000 acres from the Kentucky Cattle Company in 1902. From around 1907 to 1915, the company got involved in land sales, promoting the city as a great cotton-growing region, which greatly contributed to the growth of Crosbyton. In 1958, a museum was planned and built through a foundation that was organized by Zina Lamar. The building includes an auditorium, a kitchen, and an exhibit space for numerous artifacts. Crosbyton became a marketing center for hogs, wheat, and grain sorghum. At one point, it also became the home of the world’s largest cotton gin. In 1976, the city became the largest single solar collector in the world and four years after, the town had fifty-five businesses.
