Leesville is an unincorporated coterie located in Gonzales-Guadalupe County. The community itself goes back to the 1800s exploration sites. The town was first named Capote after the Capote Hills. An ox-powered treadmill was built in the 1860s to saw lumber and grind corn. Newburn H. Guinn renamed the community after his daughter, Lee, and it was called Leesburg. The town’s post office was established in 1873. The community changed its name to Leesville because there was another Leesburg located in Texas. The town’s railroads were built in the 1900s and the highways were built around the 1930s. The town is distributed by the Nixon-Smiley Independent School District.
