Odell is an unincorporated community located at the intersection of Farm roads 2379, 91, and 432 and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, fifteen miles northwest of Vernon in extreme northwestern Wilbarger County, Texas. Its bordering town on the west is Wanderers Creek. It was named after a New York civil engineer, J. T. Odell and started out as a railroad station in 1908. Incorporated in 1928 and reaching its peak years in the 1920s with its local economy based on cattle, cotton, grain, and oil. It also has its first newspaper called the Odell News in the early 1900s. Then, in the 1970s, it was unincorporated and the town was left with a combination post office and store, two Baptist churches, and a county maintenance building in 1986. It reached a population of 131 in 2000 and the Chillicothe Independent School District served its public education.
