Perrin was named for Levi W. Perrin, the father of the town's founder, Louis Perrin who provided the land on which the community was built. It was established in 1870 and is located at the intersection of US Highway 281 and FM 2210, fifteen miles from Jacksboro in south-central Jack County. Fort Worth is 53 miles (85 km) to the southeast. This census-designated place (CDP) and unincorporated community in southeastern Jack County, Texas reached a population of 398 in 2010. Surrounded by the open prairie of the Keechi Valley, its post office was opened in 1931 with ZIP code 76486. It was considered to be the county seat and was only passed over for Jacksboro because it was not centrally located within the county. The Perrin-Whitt Consolidated Independent School District serves area students including those living in the nearby community of Whitt.
