Priddy is located in the northeast of Mills County. The town was named after Thomas Jefferson Priddy, a pioneer Baptist preacher, and Texas Ranger. In 1886 he and his family moved to northeastern Mills County from Brown County. Soon a little community grew near their farm. The first homes in the community were built in the early 1880s, primarily by German settlers. On March 31, 1891, the federal government approved Priddy as Priddy's first postmaster. However, four years later, the post office was discontinued but revived again in 1899. Growth was slow, and in 1910 the community had a store, a gin, and a population of sixty.
